I was online using one of the peer to peer music sharing programs. I inadvertently shut off my computer “illegally”. When I restarted it, it immediately went into safemode. I tried to go into system restore but it gave me no previous backup dates to choose. I am now stuck in perpetual safe mode every time I boot up and most of my programs including internet are disabled since not all of my drivers are loading. Please help!

try tapping f8 when windows is starting up (do this before the windows splash screen shows up)...then, you should get some choices. choose normal mode.

If this has happened within the past 5 days,
Click Start > Run > type scanreg /restore and click OK.
Choose a day just prior to this happening from the list and hit [Enter]. Follow the prompts. Reboot.

Thank you both for your advice. When I get home , I'll give it a shot and let you know how I did.

Thanks Again.

Thanks for the help.

I tried your suggestions and unfortunately my system restore points were not available. I was able to use a boot disk to then run some diagnostics and then have it boot up in Normal mode.

I still do have a problem with my computer only being able to view with only 16 colors and not 256. I tried the help menu and was unsuccessful by adjusting the accelerator and reinstalling the driver. I’ve read I may have to make a change in the BIOS. Any thoughts, suggestions?

Thanks Again

The first thing I'd try is going to the video card manufacturer's website and then d/loading and installing the most recent driver.
