my whole pc is read-only and cant be changed?

hi all,

is there some was of finding out what is making all my files read only?

i thought it might be win vista, but have now gone to win xp (both installed on same pc), and have the same problem?

as far as i know, right clicking on the files, and unselecting read only, should fix the problem, but it does not change? when i go to check the status, then the read only flag has been reset to on?

can someone please help?

Is the "Read only" attribute on just folders or on individual files within folders as well?

thanks for replying, i fixed the problem.

an over protective program set everything to read only, so i have now removed it and got back normal use of the pc.
