Hello,
I am unable to start the Windows Event Log service in Vista Premium (pre-SP1). I get the following error message:
"Windows could not start the Windows Event Log service on Local Computer. Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified."
I discovered the problem when I tried to create a System Restore point and got an error message "Could not create the scheduled task for the following reason: The request is not supported. (0x80070032)"
So I then tried to start the Task Scheduler service and got an error message "Windows could not start the task scheduler service on local computer. Error 1608: the dependency service or group failed to start."
So I then checked the dependencies for the Task Scheduler service and found the following:
DCOM Service Process Launcher - this service is running OK
Windows Event Log - this service is not running and when I tried to start the service I got the error message above.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
