Windows update error code 8024402C

Hi there,
I am running windows vista home premium and cannot search for windows
updates while windows firewall is turned on, I receive error code 8024402C.
Turning windows firewall off allows windows update to run successfully. I
would like windows updates to be able to run without having to turn off the
firewall.
I have checked the lan settings in internet explorer and it is set to
automatically detect settings.
Any help in solving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Mr Ed for this suggestion.
Unfortunately I can't seem to add websites to my firewall exceptions list - only programs.
How and where would I enter the websites?
