I replaced my old card (the one used to hook the ethernet wire to) with one that has an antenna so it can be wireless. All of a sudden whenever I shut down my computer, it freezes at the final screen saying : Windows 98 is shutting down, please wait. That is the only change I made to the cpu before this started happening. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Here is one of the articles that sould help you fix the problem. (You might want to try step 4 first (the damaged exit sound file one), that worked for me when I had this problem)
Article 202633 Troubleshooting Win 98 Shutdown Problems (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;202633)
If you try the things listed there and it still doesn't work it'd be helpful to know if you had windows 98 second edition (SE) or the original. There are a couple more articles of things you can do if this page doesn't work.

Are you trying to shut down directly from the internet? Or are you closing everything to get back to your desktop then shuting down? Is this a LAPTOP?

Aside from MS's geeky tech release you may wish to attempt the following:
Boot to safe mode. Visit device manager and remove every device that has a duplicated entry EXCEPT for "system devices" (leave everything alone in there). Then reboot the system and let the drivers auto detect. This may resolve the issue completely. If it doesn't I would remove the Ethernet adapter in Device Manager and remove the device from the system. If the issue continues then you need to consider other options, like updating the OS with windowsupdate.com, and other solutions presented in the knowledge base article provided above.
