My HP laptop sounds a beeping alarm at midnight, even when turned off. It seems there is a setting that needs to be turned off but I can't find it. It has been doing this for several days. My OS is Vista Home Premium. Any help would be appreciated.

Since beeping when turned off is unlikely, have you checked other things by the computer, in a drawer under it, under or behind its desk or table, etc.? An alarm clock, a wrist watch, a PDA, a pager or, if you have one, a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) or maybe even a router if it's powered up...any could possibly be the "beeper."

Miz...The laptop sounds a continuous beep every night precisely @ midnight. No, there is no other device that would sound such a beep. Last night @ midnight when laptop was turned off it happened. I raised the lid and turned on laptop, then beeping stopped. Maybe I could change computer time so I wouldn't have to get at midnight, eh.

Thanks,

The only other thing I can think of at the moment is a low battery alarm. I don't know why it would sound it when it's turned off, though.

Hopefully somebody else with the solution will come along.

It seems my tack isn't as sharp as it once was. My Oregon Scientific weather receiver/transmitter somehow got it's alarm turned on. Just a coincidence the alarm quit when I turned on computer. Thanks.
