Sound but no picture

I'm playing Command and Conquer 3
I have two optons for sound devices - my sound card and a recording software called Total Recorder.

It i use the recording software I can play the game, but the sound is very distorted and it's hard to hear what's going on.

If i use my sound card, the sound is fine, but I don't get a picture (which for playing a game is a little tricky)

My PC is well over the spec the game requires.

Any suggestions?
