After using the described fix for the error 0x800C0131 by changing the folders.dbx file to folders.old, how do I get access to all the messages that I had in my inbox which is now empty? Thanks.

I see murray closed the duplicate.
welcome to cth.
I googled "dbx repair" and cannot make the choice for you.
(most of the programs I see cost some money)
If I were you I would make a copy of the folder with all the files in it, because if you want to repair content you have to make the renamed file useable again. (The folders.old could be renamed to OLDmail.dbx I guess.)
The little program I have on hard disk is very old, and I won't bias your choice by mentioning its name... (I used outlook 2000 and now outlook 2007)
