I have a brand new laptop-HP Pavilion DV9700- with 3 GB of RAM, GeForce 7150M, AMD Turion X64 Dual Core 2 GHz. It's running on Windows Vista Home Premium.
After checking www.systemrequirementslab.com, it said that my laptop was just below the "recommended" bar and exceeded the requirements by far.
I installed COD4, used the "Automatically Optimize Settings" feature, and lo and behold, everything was set to a high setting.
I was impressed because it's a lot better than my desktop, and so I hop into a game and everything gets very choppy, and was unplayable. The game is updated, as are the drivers and even Punkbuster. The ping was also spiking erratically.
I tried tinkering with the settings and was distressed to find that even using the smallest resolution with the lowest possible settings, the game was still running below 30 FPS.
I also tried playing counter-strike:source, and it too recommended high graphic quality settings, but the game was unplayable due to a very low FPS.
Same problem.
So, the question is, what could I do to improve gameplay even if I greatly exceed the minimum system requirements?
Oh, and I already completed a virus scan and a spyware scan using AVG.
and there aren't any background processes running (any unneeded ones).
