When there’s news (http://cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/up/player/popup/?rn=248153&cl=7310088&ch=248154&src=y7news ) that homeless teens have doubled in numbers due to parent relationship breakdown, it’s a worrying sign of the times. More worrying are the unsavoury environments and types of persons such teens can be exposed to as a consequence.

How can better parent/child relationships be built to avoid such breakdowns that cause kids to be kicked out or run away from home?

Frankly, some of them are probably better off on the streets than with abusive/incompetent parents.

It can be a dilemma for children when parents are abusive/incompetent. Unfortunately, many kids are not aware that there are outfits who will backup and step in to act on childrens behalf (ie under 18s), with some positive actions, rather than have kids on the street.

There are too many dangers and predators on the streets for kids. Those street youth take some turning around because they are suspicious of adults or any type of establishment that tries holding out a helping hand. Only those who take the first step in reaching out can normally be saved/helped.

Sorry to have revived this topic, but I see this is a real problem as well. One of my friends that I used to talk to online and also met in RL a few times, she is now on the streets because of a few things, parents being one of them. I won't say much else, but I guess this is a serious thing, and these are hard times. Teens who have parents that are fighting should get into a Foster Family, I think it would be a better environment than staying in their house and picking up all of these things. Because if your parents fight all the time, then that can influence you later in life and you may even become partially like they were.
