Os Won't Start

My friend's computer wouldn't start so I tried my power cable on hers and that solved the problem, the computer and everything loaded like it should. Last week she bought a new cable, but now the computer gets power but for some reason the os will not, so she has power but nothing comes up on the screen. You can her the fan but you don't hear the sound of the os booting up. What can be the problem?

i would suggest some old fashion hard ware trouble shooting. REMOVE everything (make surre you take notes so you can put it back together) clean it all with canned air and electronic contact cleaner. Look for burnt parts on the CPU, RAM, and BIOS. but before you do any of that REMOVE the "Button" battery it should say "2032" on it. and find the jumper that clears the bios/cmos and set it to do so and reboot. that sometimes works and is easier then taking the entire thing apart.

Life... Is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless, perfunctoral gift that no one ever asks for. Unreturnable because all you get is another box of chocolates. So, you're stuck with mostly undefinable whipped mint crap, mindlessly wolfed down when there's nothing else to eat while your watching the game. Sure once in a while you get a peanut butter cup or an English toffee but its gone to fast and the taste is fleeting. In the end, you're left with nothing but broken bits filled with hardened jelly and teeth shattering nuts, which if you are desperate enough to eat leaves nothing but an empty box of useless brown paper wrappers.
