Somehow I have tonight managed to get my wireless router to work 'wireless' but have no security on it to stop anyone else from accessing it. The green wlan light is on and when I used my other computer to connect it found my connection 'open' with no need for password or network key (wep/wpa) to access this. Earlier I was trying to set my Xvia wireless using the 192.168.1.1 method but everytime I tried (20+) I kept getting 'page unavailable' :dizzy:

I am running an XP Pro with the wireless and tried setting up the windows wireless network settings with a usb stick. Everything seemed ok but when I logged in I managed to find my connection 'unsecure' and logged into internet no problem.

Is there anything anyone can suggest a solution please or a programme to password protect me ???

Thanks for your time in reading this post.

first question is what is the brand name of the wireless router you are using?

once we know that we can confirm if you are using the right ip address or not

Thanks freakingprince for your prompt reply .... The modem is a XAVI X7768R which was purchased over a year ago but never set up as wirelss, only using the cat5 cable was suffice. Now I have another computer in the house and tried again to get wireless .... somehow it works but has no security to stop others gaining access to it. I tried the windows prog with a usb stick - this produced the WEP/WPA key but did not work. Hope this info might help you help me please.

ok i have done a little look up on your modem..i am assuming its has a built in router with the modem

here is the manual..take a look at it and let me know if it that one.... if it is..take a look under wireles section and it explain how to set it up.... i am sure you should have a manual that comes with it..if not hopefully this manual does the trick for you

go over it and see if you can set it up yourself...
