Vista playing up again?

Hi, a mate of mine has asked this question below in a games forum and I'm too dumb to help him, so
if anybody's got any advice or suggestions i'll pass them on to him, thanks -

I can't install CMBB [strategy game] on my new Vista machine. The installer disk just will not be read by the new machine and seizes everything up. I have managed to install CMAK [another strategy game], but the text boxes are whited out and hard to make out, otherwise it is ok.
I have the radeon ATI HD 2600 XT video card.
Does this mean I am hooped and can't play CM on my nice new 24" video display?
If anyone knows a fix or can help, it would be appreciated.

Not a gamer myself but do have a laptop w/ VISTA - went to the CMBB Website (http://www.battlefront.com/products/cmbb/specs.html) - VISTA is not present in their OS list - if not already done, I'd suggest visiting the forum (already 1 VISTA posting there) - may be just a VISTA issue that needs resolution w/ the gaming software? Okay thanks, my mate now says he's come up with a 'workable solution' (whatever that means) so if he's happy we're happy..:)
