Can a person’s face be a dead giveaway...

Can a person’s face be a dead giveaway to sexual attitude? Well, according to a university research, “…one look is all it took for most people to work out whether someone was keen on a long-term relationship or just a fling…”

Personally, I take in facial and body language when dealing with people, so I’m inclined to agree with this study. What do you reckon about this study?

I agree. I think that this thread will most probably be closed by a moderator.

True. Veneers can be pretty thin and more often than not, one can see through them.

Outcome of the study has the sensibility to further note:

Quote:
"While faces do hold cues to sexual attitudes, men should not presume any kind of relationship is wanted from appearance alone since women's choice is what matters,"

"Indeed, most women found promiscuous-looking guys unattractive for both short and long-term relationships."

Looks for me are only skin deep...and cues from faces, imo, can only be read if one also takes in facial expressions and body language. So I see this study as only one aspect, that cannot be read singularly.

I'm suprised they did this from photographs, because the expression on the subjects face would change depending on the subject the subject was subjecting to their gaze, resulting in a different degree of subjectivity.

Good point...which goes towards the confidence levels in judgments when this comment is considered:

Quote:
...people are not always sure about their judgments possibly because the cues are very subtle...
and as you noted, one needs to take into consideration what influences the subject's gaze.

That's why I can only view this study as being singular, because as you've picked up, there are other aspects to consider before one can get "the whole picture".

I've often wondered about all this regarding to our illustrious head honcho here at CTH, I mean, we've yet to see the whole picture, heck we've yet to see any picture which makes me wonder what Mrs. BB has seen.............................Surely not just a paper bag over his head!!!

I'm glad someone finally saw the humourous intent of this thread.

I thought I did, I'd like to see someone create a sentence with more liberal use of the word "subject" than I just did.

On a serious not about the "research", with the methods used (photos?) and the sample size being so small, I would doubt this "research" would get the students very far in whatever degree they are trying to achieve.

Not knowing you chaps/gals well enough, I'm still being discrete...have to admit though, I had to read your previous post a couple of times (my brain was holding a red pen at the ready), to get around your usage of "subject":

Quote:
"...the expression on the subjects face would change depending on the subject the subject was subjecting to their gaze, resulting in a different degree of subjectivity."

Tend to agree with you regarding the "research" method...but given the number of persons used (over a thousand) for the study, photographs were probably the easiest and best medium to use, and I suspect like a marketing survey.

C'mon, barkeep, you've seen that shot of the boss' hand - closest I think we'll ever get to discovering the true identity. Difficult to figure out his sexual attitude from that pic, tho.....
