Hey guys a have a few questions, because a relative has bought a vista laptop and i hate vista, she has asked me to sort it out.

Couple of problems i need solving are:

1) i need a anti virus insted of rubbish norton which is already on there, does AVG workk on vista?

2) Everything on the desktop is HUGE how to you make it smaller?

3) how do i get rid of the stupid gadgets on the right of my desktop.

4) everytime i do something a stupid box comes up and says "windows needs your permission to acess this file" HOW do i get rid of that stupid box.

5) there is a yahoo toolbar at the bootom of my desktop in the start bar, there is also one at the top of the desktop, how do i get rid of them!?

Thanks!

1. Yes, AVG works on Vista. I run Vista Home Premium and AVGs working just fine.
2. Change the screen resolution. Right click on an empty space on the Desktop, left click Personalize. All the same options as in XP are there; they're just arranged differently.
3. Right click on the Sidebar (or the Sidebar icon), left click Properties, uncheck the "Start Sidebar when Windows starts" checkbox. On that menu is also the option to close the sidebar.
4. The "stupid box' is the User Account Control. It's discussed in this thread (http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=170299) which you should read before turning it off...and before advising your relative to turn it off.
5. Uninstall it: Control Panel>Programs and Features is where you'll find the Add or Remove Programs that's about the same as XP's.
