connect.. disconnect.. connect.. disconnect... WHY?
hi
we have a shared router wireless (belkin) and it keeps connecting and disconnecting. it disconnects sfter about 3 or 4 mins then reconnects after a few seconds. is there a common cause of this behaviour? this is what the router says (if any help): Get IP Address kk.uu.vv.33 From DHCP Server => Mon Apr 14 09:17:29 2008 WAN Connection Disconnected => Mon Apr 14 09:17:24 Get IP Address kk.uu.vv.33 From DHCP Server => Mon Apr 14 09:15:52 2008 WAN Connection Disconnected => Mon Apr 14 09:15:47 etc etc any thoughts cheers Inq

Do you ever get a good connection from the belkin to your ISP?
What have you had connected besides the belkin? Some ISPs require you to register your MAC address or just expect it to be fairly constant. HAve you tried cloning your PC's MAC address onto the belkin?

Thanks for thoughts z1p.
As far as am aware we used to get a good and constant conection. the router is conected to the ISP by cable and our service provider comes to our house via cable. There are people in the house that have 'done their thing' on the shared network.... examples are: 1 play station is used sometimes for online gaming (this is occasional and the con/dic/con prob occurs when this is not running) 2 someone plays online games through their computer and has rigged up their PC to run outside the routers firewall... something to do with DMZ? 3 someone has a 'through the mains' connection....... they plugged it into a spare 'hole' in the back of the wireless router and this goes to the plug socket... in their room they have another gadget plugged into their romm plug socket and this has a cable that goes to their computer.... apparently nothing has been fiddled with in the settings of the router . Our ISP has set a MAC address and we have just left it as that... dont know where that came from.... it does give an option to clone ONE computers MAC address, but have not done this as several users with individual computers log on and log off.... and dont know the benefits/downfalls to cloning one specific MAC. dont know if there is any more info in this lot to find/ressolve cause of prob. cheers for time/thoughts Inq
