Channel 4 On Demand problem Re: Flash Player
When I try to install the Channel 4 On Demand TV player I get a 1904 error message. See their instructions on solving it below:
Windows Vista 1. Download and Run the file from the link below: http://download.macromedia.com/pub/f...ash_player.exe then follow the instructions, including any User Account Control prompts which appear 2. Download and Run the file from the link below: http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get...r_active_x.msi then follow the instructions, including any User Account Control prompts which appear 3. Open your Start Menu. 4. Under “Start Search”, type cmd. 5. cmd.exe should appear in the results box. 6. Right-click on cmd.exe and select “Run as Administrator”. 7. Follow any User Account Control prompts which appear. 8. In the cmd window, type in: regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\macromed\flash\flash9e.ocx 9. Press Enter You will then receive a configuration message. (If you get an error code 0x80070005 then you need to ensure that you used ‘Run as Administrator’ to launch the cmd window). After entering the required line in the command prompt window (opened with administrator rights) I get a message telling me the flash9e.ocx file could not be found. Sure enough, when I dig into the Flash folder it`s not there. I then tried Adobe`s own instructions as below: Follow the instructions to download the SubInACL tool from the Microsoft Download Center. Install SubInACL. Download the reset_minimal.zip file. Extract the reset_minimal.cmd file to C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools\. **At this point I got an error message `Can`t create output file C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools\. ` Important: Be sure that both the subinacl.exe and reset_minimal.cmd files are in the same location here: C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools\. Double-click reset_minimal.cmd. This will open a command window and execute the SubInACL tool. Do not use the machine while SubInACL is running. When it is finished you will see "Press any key to continue". Install the Flash Player from www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer. If you guys can solve this you get the `genius of the year` award! Thanks, Art |

Hi Art. I'll pick up on Adobe's instructions because it probably is a permissions issue.
Download reset_minimal.zip file to your Desktop and doubleclick on the file to extract the contents. A new folder will be created called reset_minimal. Open the folder and rightclick on reset_minimal.cmd and choose "Copy". Now open Computer and navigate to the C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools folder. When you find it, rightclick on the Tools folder and choose Paste. Next open the folder but dont doubleclick on reset_minimal.cmd to run it as advised by Adobe. Rightclick on it instead and choose "Run as Administrator". It will do it's thing. Just close the command prompt when it has finished. Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for that. Unfortunately it didn`t work.
I followed your instructions and, as you said, the unzipped file did its stuff: lots of action in the command prompt window. I then tried opening the 4oD viewer but it failed. I then reinstalled the 4oD viewer but still got the pesky 1904 error. Will now uninstall Flash Player - again!!! - reinstall it; uninstall the 4oD player; reinstall it and see what happens, But I bet the problem persists... Many thanks for your (very) prompt reply on this grey Sunday morning.Art |

Art, I checked the instructions for installing 4oD viewer (I should have done this before, sorry) and they are out of date. The version of Flash offered for download is a later version and installs flash9f.ocx.
Check to make sure that Flash is installed by clicking here -> http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ You should see: You have version 9,0,124,0 installed If so, try to install 4oD viewer again but when you get to the below instruction: 8. In the cmd window, type in: regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\macromed\flash\flash9e.ocx Type instead: regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\macromed\flash\flash9f.ocx Let us know if this helped.

Thanks. Did that (changed the file name) and it said installed OK.
But then tried to reinstall 40D and got the 1904 error message again. "flash9d.ocx failed to register" Banging head against thick brick wall...! Art

Sounds like the problem is with the Channel 4 On Demand TV player Art and I cant help you with that. It's looking for an ActiveX control that doesnt exist. Email them, surely they have a support team.

Channel 4 team seem to have given up. No response to my last message to them.
I bet it`s something really simple like a tick in the wrong box in a security setting. If you Google flash9d.ocx you get thousands of sites all experiencing problems with this file... I`ve posted on several help sites. Got response, but no solutions. Thanks for trying. I appreciate it, Art |

Art, I just had a thought (no comments please
). It's also possible there are some registry entries causing the problem.Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. Install the utility, reboot and look in Start > All Programs for Windows Install Clean Up. Open the program and you should now see a list of installed programs. Are there any 4oD viewer entries there? If so, select only those entries with your mouse (dont remove any other entries or there could be more problems) and then click on Remove. Reboot and now try reinstalling 4oD viewer according to the instructions but use the below steps for Step 8. Quote:
