Hard Wired - No internet

Got a computer that is hard wired but not getting internet. The modem is working fine bc my friend called his internet provider and they said there is nothing he can do, there is an issue with the computer. I am going over within the next couple of days so I am looking to get some advice on what the problem is.
Any help?

best advice I can give you Mal is look at the sticky here (http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=84447) and post back when you get to your buddies with all the relevant info.

It'll also give you a good framework to approach your buds machine with when you get there. Perhaps you can print it out before you go.
