Computer says I'm connected but nothing loads

My wife has a laptop computer she was on it tonight it was working find then suddenly the connection started to freak out
She got that fixed and now the laptop tells her she is connected to the internet but nothing loads for her...
no browsers, msn, yahoo nothing
any suggetions?
