I have a Compaq Presario 5000, with Windows ME. It came with Microsoft Works 2000. I tried to open works the other day, and I received the following: Works cannot find the files needed to complete the task. The files may be missing or corrupted. Reinstall works. I attempted to reinstall, and I received the following: SETUP could not launch the MDAC installation. I tried restoring the computer to an earlier time. They are always unsuccesful. I tried to reinstall again, this time I received the following: Error applying transform. Verify that the specified tranformed paths are valid. Could someone please help me? This is my first time using this site. Thanks!

For the "SETUP could not launch the MDAC installation" error, take a look at this MSKB article (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=321740). Although the title of the article doesn't apply to the error message that you are receiving, it does instruct on how to install MDAC from the Microsoft Works CD-ROM.

For the "Error applying transform" error, I found this workaround, which seems to solve this error message with Microsoft Word (found nothing about it in relation to Microsoft Works):
Open the registry editor (Start>Run key in regedit then click on OK or press ENTER). Do a Find (F3) for .mst (ensure that the boxes for Keys, Values, and Data are all checkmarked). It will find a transform entry with a long string of letters and numbers in the data. Delete the transform entry. Find again. Delete the second transform entry. Exit regedit. Make sure the Recycle Bin is empty. It should work now.

you could also try uninstalling it first from add/remove programs then install it.
