I replaced default icons for my shortcut items on my desktop with personalized icons. They did fine for several months. Now all the shortcut icons are the "desktop" icon. I have tried to change them back by going into the properties of the shortcut item, but it still shows the personalized icon, but it is not coming through to the desktop. Any suggestions on how I can get my personalized icons to once again appear on my desktop??? Thank you

Hi M. Torres - welcome to CTH. Sometimes booting your computer into Safe Mode and then when windows has finished loading, booting back into normal mode fixes problems with desktop icons. If that doesnt work, try deleting shelliconcache and rebooting. The file will be rebuilt but you will have to replaced the default icons with the personalized icons again.

I right clicked my desktop, went to properties and then to display. Selected icon, changed the size up 10 numbers (icon cache size), clicked apply and then changed it again back to the original number, clicked apply again and bingo, my personalized icons were back.
