Smile Wireless Internet says connected but cannot access internet

Hi, my wireless internet says that it is connected with good signal but when i try to access the internet "page cannot be displayed" comes up. This only happens sometimes, but when it does happen I have to disconnected and then reconnected to get the internet working but even then it only works for a limited ammount of time before the "page cannot be displayed" page comes back up.

After putting "CMD" into Run and then typing "IPCONGFIG /ALL" this comes up,

Windows IP Configuration

Primary Dns Suffix:
Node Type: Unknown
IP Routing Enabled: No
WINS Proxy Enabled: No

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Media State: Media disconnected
Description: Intel<R> PRO/100 VE Network Connection
Physical Address: 00-12-3F-B8-0E-B7

Ethernet adapter Wireless Netwrok Connection 3:
Connection-specidic DNS Suffix:
Description: Belkin High-Speed Mode Wireless G USB Network Adapter
Physical Address: 00-11-50-7E-70-D5
Dhcp Enabled: Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled: Yes
IP Address: 192.168.0.4
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DHCP Server: 192.168.0.1

Any help is very much appreciated.

Hi x-B and welcome to CTH,

That all seems normal and since you say it works for a while then quits, I'd expect that most of the time it is fine.

What are you running for a wireless router?
Are you running an encrypted wireless connection (WEP/WPA/...)?
What other systems connect through the router?

What version of windows are you running and are you up to date on service packs and updates?

Are you using microsoft's zeroconfig wireless tool or one from belkin?

Sorry about all the questions, but I'm looking for a place to start...

cmd /k ipconfig/all [use to start ipconfig from 'Run']
cmd /k ping <some website, like google or yahoo> [use to ping 'www.google.com' from 'Run']

Hi,

I'm using a Sky router.
My connection is encrypted, WPA
A laptop and an X-box are also connected but are connected through an ethernet cable. (Don't think this is a problem as internet used to work fine with both being active also, problem also occurs when these two things are off.)
I'm on Windows XP have serive pack 2 not sure if I'm completely up-to-date.
I'm using microsoft zeroconfig at the moment.

Thanks, hope this helps.

I'm not really familiar with sky, but from some quick reading it appears that its your ISP, not really the make of the router. Can you get the make and model of the router?

So this used to work fine but doesn't any longer. When you lose the wireless does the wired connections still work? Can you run ipconfig during one of the outages and post the info back here?

How old is the router?

So it IS sky wireless that is absolutely sh*t!

I have the same problems!

Except since last night it is stuck on 'unsuccessful connection'.

I'm 'connected to the internet' but unable to access it. I have no idea how to fix this. I can get on the internet using my phone though (through wireless).
