I use XP. I have a few software questions. My understanding of computers is basic. When I try to delete some programs such as Microsoft Office sometimes I get a message saying: "Renaming, deleting or moving....could make some programs not work. Are you sure you want to do this?" How serious is this warning? Should I just go ahead and delete the program anyway. For example, I copied Office onto my slave drive because it has more space, and I got that warning when I tried to delete Office from my master drive . Should I just go ahead and delete Office from my master drive? When a program downloads a bunch of extra stuff comes with it like uninstall, setup, .dll, DTB, etc. Can I safely delete any of these? I'm pretty sure I don't need the setup program on my desktop anymore after I've installed the program. Before running some programs a message will come up saying that files or programs or whatever should be backed up. Is this usually true, and how do I back up stuff? Why does my Bitcomet program listed in Control Panel contain 5 gigs? Does what I download with Bitcomet accumulate somewhere? I thought the files I download just go directly the to the HD I choose. Any replies would be appreciated.

Hi 333zzz - first, welcome to the CTH Forum -

Second, you're really just 'rambling on' about a number of software issues w/o giving much assistance, e.g. what OS are you running & what is your computer system (number of partitions, drives, etc.)?

Second, Microsoft Office is a huge & complicated software suite w/ many interdependencies w/i Windows, including linked DLLs (Dynamic Link Library files that are used by different programs) - why do you want to delete this suite or move it to a different partition or drive?

Not sure what your other issues may be, but please try to 'address' one question or problem @ a time - might help others provide more specific suggestions - good luck!

Hi

TIP, don't download programs you want to set up to the desktop.
It gets cluttered, right?
You would not be the first to download a self executing zip, and then run it.
If you do that while it is in the desktop, you could get a zillion of files there..
(now, files like those CAN be moved to a folder.. OR deleted.)

the advice on p2p is that you should know what you do, and you should look at what is in the folders you share. You could be sharing sensitive personal files without knowing it.
What you downloaded is often also shared.
