My game wont get higher resolution

ok... this is really annoying me... i dont know if anyone else has had this problem but my computer says that i cant go to 1280 x 1024 but i can hold it very easily.... now i have it on my main screen but when i go into a game eg. Battle field 2 it wont let me go to 1280 x 1024 only 1024 x768.... this is really annoying me does anyone know how to solve this??

Hi and welcome to CTH.
2D desktop requires different levels of hardware than 3D game.
What sort of Video card do you have?
Is your monitor correctly identified in Windows or is it using a generic or Plug'n'play driver?

i use a nividia 7900 gtx it is a good card, but i think my monitor says i cant hold 1280 x 1024. if i click and say show options monitor cant hold it shows 1280 x 1024 and i use it but it dosnt show in the games because of this

Ahhh. dnt worry i found out :P my default settings on my graphics card where at 450mhz for 3d i put it up to 500mhz and i can get the 1280 resolutions.. thanx
