Sound Problem..please help!

Alright..I just reinstalled 98, but I have no sound! Here's the results from AIDA:

Windows Audio: NOTHING came up
PCI/PnP Audio: VIA AC97 Audio Controller [H]
ACM: Gave me a list of codecs and such
VCM: Gave me a list of .dll's

Can someone please help? I've tried everything to get this to work.

Did you install the drivers?

When you reinstalled Windows it may not of found the right drivers and not installed any.

Right Click on "My Computer" then to Properties, Device Manager, scroll down to Sound, what are the entries there besides codec's?

There's nothing even for sound..it shows the tab, but not a plus sign beside it. But..

There is a little yellow question mark beside "PCI Ethernet Controller" and "PCI Multimedia Audio Device"

When I go into the audio one, it says:
"The Drivers are not installed or not working correctly. If you want to install these drivers, click the button below" So I do and it reads my 98 disc, but finds nothing for it. Grrrr......

You need to find the sound drivers to reinstall them. 1st you need to identify the sound card you have.

VIA AC97 Audio Controller tells me you have Built in Sound right? In otherwords, you do not have a sound card but the sound is built into the motherboard.

These are the drivers HERE however, we need to make sure they are the right ones.

Is this a store bought PC Name brand, or a home buit one. If a store bought name brand list it here with model number. Or you can go to the manufactures web site and see if the drivers are there.

Do you have a CD that came with the computer? May have drivers on it?

UPDATE:
Site works, am downloading the driver now (DIAL UP SUCKS!) But anyway..thank you SO much Murf. I do have another question though.

I did a windows update in the time frame of looking for the ellusive driver and windows updated me with something called SoundMax. Is that going to affect anything? I sure hope not.. I just want this machine up and running again
