Hi All,
I was helping a friend who bought a new wireless linksys router and they tried to install it (they previously had a hard wire linksys router that worked fine). They called Comcast and linksys and both pointed the finger at each other, as expected.
I went over, ran the software from the linksys router and it did everything fine, except connect to the modem. Somehow, also, on the machine there was a wireless network card setup (there isn't one on this machine), so that threw me for a loop.
Anyway, tried different cat5 cables, tried manual setup, etc. I can ping the router. I then tried to hook the computer directly to the modem. I was pulling an ip but no default gateway. I tried to reset the modem, several times, and that didn't work. I even tried to hardwire another computer to it and the same results.
Based on this I believe it is a problem with the modem but I am not sure. Your thoughts.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
