object & text leaves grey-ish bar outlines

Wondering if someone has experienced & remedied a Pc problem I'm having with "after image bleed" on text and objects in all environments. Operating system is: Windows 98SE. I'm getting " shaded translucent horizontal lines/bar across & over text and objects from one end of the screen to other. Most noticeable on white & light backgrounds. After incident, changed monitor and eliminated contribution. Then updated graphic drivers, did scans of all types, no virus, conflicts or anomalies, thoroughly checked and tweeked Display properties, refresh rate hasn't changed from - optimal. It seemed to occur after some web page editing, where I had IE 5.5 & Netscape 4.7 running simaltaneously. Did not reboot or shut down first to see problem occur. Came back after few hours to discover it. Figured maybe Explorer issue. Removed Netscape- no change. Any help or suggestions appreciated. Tom

I can see clearly now

Thanks for reply. Well, here's the skinny. Fixed problem...twice. Had gotten a lot of feedback that my anomaly was caused by a faulty video card and I replaced with another. Still problem. Then a relative came by and put in a v/card that he knew was good and voila! No more problem. What are the chances of that. If nothing else, I found out a great deal about my computer and how things work. Bios..Go Back..conflicts..tweeking and a great site for video upgrades called: videocardupgrade.com. Hope this may help the next victim. Tom
