HTML Alignment Problem using MS Word

I'm a newbie.

My web page does not look right when viewed with a browser - or I should say it doesn't look like it does in MS Word. If you look, it's quite obvious that I'm having alignment problems. I can't figure out why this is happening. Any ideas?

You can save a file as html in Word but you can't make a decent web site with it. Sorry to say the only option I can think of is to start over and copy your content into a new file. Use something that is designed to make web pages. Some suggestions in this thread.

Interesting thread. Sounds like maybe Dreamweaver might be a good consideration.

I have learned some HTML, from Maricopa, well paced and free. But after a couple of days, all I can do is some really basic things. Seems like it would take months of study and practice to do what little I have in my site, if I was to use notepad.

When I view the source code for my site (that MS Word generated) that is some really intense looking code there. And it's not even impressive really. I can't imagine trying to create a text box that I can move around to a specific location by using type written code only.

"Notepad" is just a way of saying "text editor". I use Note Tab Pro (there is a freeware Light edition). It has features that make writing html much easier. The code created by MS Word is hopelessly complex. You can pretty much forget trying to edit that html with a text editor. It's a waste of time. If you're learning html and trying to write it using a text editor, bookmark the W3Schools site,. You'll find a wealth of info there.

If you use a wysiwyg like Nvu, the more html you know the easier it is to fine tune and edit your pages. Dreamweaver is a good choice but requires a financial commitment as it's rather expensive.

As for the layout, you would be best off using css. It's a step forward that you might not be ready for but it helps to understand how to position elements if you look at the css code. There are some templates that you can use to get started at glish.com. Another thing about css is that it replaces some of the html code that you're trying to learn.

You know, I was looking at that CSS stuff and it looks really interesting. I think I'll read up on it some more, see how much I can figure out. The browser compatibility issues seems like a turn off, but I have to admit that my browser here at work, as well as at home, worked just fine.

I followed the links to CSS / Edge, and found some cool pages there. Is it ok to copy the source and use it as a template? Wasn't sure about copyright infringement or whatnot. I was definitely impressed with the look of some of those pages, fixed images with text scrolling and interesting hovering techniques - and none of it seemed "huge" in the way of coding or loading or anything. Very neat.

Anyway, thanks a lot for the help.
