How do I boot up windows 98?

Hello,

I inserted a flashdrive into my older thinkpad 390e.
This was a mistake because now the operating windows
98 does not boot.
When this first happened scandisk was configuring the
problem but never finished. Now scandisk does not work.
I have to go into bios to set the default values and then
the windows 98 screen appears but nothing else happens?

What should I do? Thanks for any suggestions.

does the think pad have a floppy disk drive and do you have a win98 boot floppy ?
if so, boot from the floppy and type
FDISK /MBR this will restore your master boot record on the HDD
which seems to have been corrupted. remove the floppy and try a reboot.
