Looking for a new laptop or desktop...not sure what i need

I just want to be able to use it for school... and play poker. I play several tables at once sometimes up to 12. I also run a stat tracking programming that takes up a lot of memory. I bought a dell xps laptop in 2005 and its way too slow now...

What exactly would something like that cost me?

Thank you for your input.

Do you need your computer to be portable? Desktop machines with a decent flat panel display and a real keyboard and real mouse are much easier to use and see.

I've had Dell machines for a while, and am very happy with them, good price and good service. Check their site http://www.dell.com

They still seem pretty good value for money - have a looky here

Teh Acer's seem to be being built very well, and over this side of the pond, are pretty well priced. Here's the US site

*EDIT* Oops, sorry Ned, took a phonecall before hitting "reply" - where's me manners?

Whats wrong with upgrading the Dell you have now? For your needs, it may be wayyy cheaper to simply plug in some more memory, do a fresh Windows install and presto - instant happiness & joy.
