Hi guys,

I have a Fujitsu-Siemens laptop with interchageable 'A'- or CDRom-bay. Disk is formatted and now when I use a bootdisk to startup, ('A'-drive inserted) the CDRomdriver is not installed because it cannot find a CDRomdrive !!! How true :-)
Anyone any idea how to solve this?

Hi psychodad,
If you have access to a rig that has a floppy drive and a CD burner, you could make a bootable CD and then copy the files from a WIN98 startup disk to the bootable CD. Boot from the CD, and it would be as if you were booting from the WIN98 startup floppy disk.......you would choose to start WITH CDROM SUPPORT and generic CDROM drivers would be loaded. When finished booting, you would be at an A: prompt (as the bootable CD is emulating a startup floppy disk). You could then take the boot CD out and put the WIN98 install CD in, [edit by Jaak ] copy the content of the win98 folder on CD to a folder on hard drive, then run Setup.

Another option is to install the DOS system files to the hard drive, including the DOS CD-ROM drivers. That will allow booting from the hard drive with CD-ROM support. If you want a generic IDE CD-ROM driver that installs itself to the hard drive, let me know and I can e-mail you one.

what GretaP says assumes you have a burner accessible.
(BUT it works!)

if not, read the article you can find on top of win 98 forum (my sig line)
start reading it, and then get to
"we almost forgot laptops... "
and/or
"laptops revisited"

yes, it deals with this too ;)
