Opening Microsoft Word 2000 documents freezes my computer

Control + Alt+ delete > msg: The system is dangerously low in resources
It asking if I want to turn off various programs & I keep clicking on yes for each program until there are no more messages.

Have run Defrag, Disk clean up, Maintenance. C drive has 2.48 GB used, 2.50 GB free,

Have uninstalled and reinstalled Microsoft word 2000
Have uninstalled and reinstalled Office Pro 97

Ran Maintenance Wizard again.

All this does not help.

I can still not open any document written in Word. It freezes on the initial copywrite info window.

I can work in Excel and have e-mail/internet access w/o any problem.

Any suggestions on how to fix Word?

Hi jamieei - welcome to CTH. Try this, run a search on your PC for normal.dot. When you find it, rename it to normal.old. Do you still have the problem when you open Word now?
