Prog Menu wab.exe shortcut leads to nothing

I have WIN95 running IE5.5SP2 with OE5. In OE the address button in the tool bar brings up my Address Book just fine but the shortcut in START | PROGRAMS MENU for wab.exe leads to nothing. Somehow I've lost the wab.exe file on my system.

Can I download this from somewhere and get this matter fixed that way?

Thanks, y'all !!!

Sounds like the shortcut is broken. Do a search to locate the file and then right click to create a shortcut. Place it where you want it.

Hey tramtwo.....

Thanks, but it's not found anywhere on MY COMPUTER after doing a search. I think I need to get the file back on my system somehow. Anywhere it can be d-l'd from?

Itz got to be there if your address book launches from with in OE.

You can run SFC from the Run Command to restore it. Do you have the 95 disk?

Edit: I think the default location is C:\Program Files\Outlook Express

Yeah...ya'd think.....you're right.....but it doesn't appear in a search of MY COMPUTER for wab.exe........go figure, huh?

Win95 doesn't have the sfc function.....at least sfc from the START | RUN dialogue window or from a DOS prompt does no-thing :-|

Yes, I do have the Win95 OS CD.

"*.wa?" see what that search returns if anything. I'll have a look at the knowledge base and see if I can dig up something.

Here is a site that may help

http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/wab.htm#wabexe

*.wab returned two files..... "Jay.wab" and "UserMPS.wab" ...... the first is my Address Book info....the second isn't familiar. These are both located at:

C:\Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book

The "dead" Address Book shortcut pointed to:

"C:\Windows\Program Files\Outlook Express\wab.exe"

and still does. It's just that wab.exe is no longer there nor anywhere else on my system.

I was having trouble with OE and uninstalled and reinstalled OE from the Microsoft Internet Explorer etc. "Add Component" in Add/Remove Programs aplet in Control Panel. OE works....but the wab.exe is no longer in the Outlook Express folder in Program Files.

If I could just get my hands on the .exe file I could just copy it back to the original location and believe that'd solve this problem. That OE web site link you included didn't appear to have a download link for the wab.exe program.

Do you know where I could get it?

Two things that I can think of that you can do.

1. Reinstall IE5.5 SP2 completely over the top of itself, or,

2. Visit Windows Update and install IE6 SP1

IE6 SP1 is a critical update now...why this is I have no idea. Anyway, if all else fails, upgrading to a higher version would give that back as long as you installed Outllok Express along with IE.

Hope this helps.

No I sure don't. Why don't you just create a shortcut for the address book you do have?

I mean everything works the way you want. Your address book contains your contacts and is integrated in OE. So...

TramTwo....

Re: the shortcut for the wab.exe I do have.....

I would, if I could. I can't find the wab.exe file on my system. When I look in the properties for the Address link in OE it points to this:

C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book\Jay.wab

but using Windows Explorer looking in

C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book\

doesn't show the wab.exe file.

I'm stumped more or less. Gonna try the overlay install of IE5.5 SP2.....seein' as I have the .cab files for it as well as the iesetup.exe on my hard drive. We'll see if it helps.

I'll post my results.

Well fellas.....all's well that ends well.....ya know?

What I ended up doing was a full reversion back to the original installation of Internet Explorer from Add/Remove Programs. I then ran full reinstallation of the iesetup.exe for IE 5.5SP2. Problems?.....we don't have no steenking problems. LOL

All right with the world, once more. WooHoo!!!

Anyways, one of life's little mysteries that'll never be revealed to us, I guess.

Life is funny that way. Windows is even funnier.
