I have a new disk drive for my laptop. I would like to somehow make a diskimage of my current disk to another computer on the lan and then put the new disk in and write the image back onto the new disk. I am not sure how to do this. Any suggestions?

So, you just want to copy one disk to another disk?

That is correct.

my choice would be norton ghost here are some instructions at this site and it is a lot simpler to put your image on cd then install it on your other drive

bacically all you have to do is create a ghost boot disk and follow on screen instructions

In that case, your best bet would be to purchase something like this:

Laptop IDE Hard Drive Adapter (https://www.cableco.com/products/1920.html)

They run around $10 or so.

This will allow you to attach the drive to a standard IDE ribbon cable in your computer.

To copy the drive you could use ghost or you could use the software for the drive. Check with your drive manufactuer for diagnostic and utility software to do. If your not sure, let us know who the manufacturer of your drive is and we'll see if we can point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the info. I need to now, get the ide cable and ghost and get it hooked up to my windows desktop machine. If I run into a snag I will post a message. Thanks a lot for the help.
