Have any of you heard of Aol having a floppy disk??? I have only seen the cd's to install Aol or anyother server. A friend wants me to install it on her computer when she gets it in. How do you install it? Can someone walk me through it?

I think she is wrong or maybe they used to come that way.

THanks!

AOL versions through version 3 came on floppy disks. After that, versions 4 through 8 needed CD's to install from, although you could split the files up onto multiple floppies using WinZip or some other program (at least for version 4 or maybe 5).

Thanks, she says it is version 5 of Aol, how do you install it? Do I just send it to desktop or to programs? Would someone tell me what to do?
Thanks so much!

First, any way you can talk your friend out of using AOL? ;) A "real" ISP, if she has one (or more) available, will probably work better for her.

If, however, she can't be talked out of it, I imagine an AOL install is made as simple as possible since AOL really targets the "new to the internet and computers" audience. Have you tried inserting the CD in the CD drive and letting it auto-start then just following the instructions as they appear on the screen?

If after inserting the CD and giving the drive plenty of time to spin up it still won't auto start, open "My Computer" and double click on the CD drive to see if that will start it up.

THanks , she says it is a floppy disk and not a cd as I know how to install a CD disk. I have never seen an ISP give a customer a floppy.

I hope the intructions come up on the screen after I put it in the floppy drive.

Thanks!

Put the floppy in the drive, double click on My Computer, then double click on the floppy drive icon. When the window with the list of files appears, there should be a Setup or Install program. Double click on that.
