Worked fine this morning.. now everytime I try to open Outlook Express it locks up and I have to goto Task Manager to "End Task". I tried to goto the control panel to remove Internet Explorer 6, but it's not there. I was going to install a new copy.
Any ideas how to fix?!

Found help on Microsoft's site on changing registry keys to do a reinstall of IE/OE.. no luck. Didn't work. Outlook Express locks up soon as I go in!
Weird thing of note: All my IE bookmarks are still there, but in different order.

Alright.. update on my situation.. waiting like 30 or 40 seconds Outlook Express will open. Anyone know why it got so slow all of the sudden?!

Aside from a few ActiveX controls, you have nothing running at startup yuppicide so conflicting startups or malware is not the problem.
Have you recently uninstalled Messenger. That will do it. If so, either dont open OE with your Contacts Folder open or if you want to leave your Contact Folder open, edit the registry. Run regedit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Outlook Express. Go to Edit > New and add a New DWord value called Hide Messenger and set the value data to 2.

Which ones are ActiveX controls?! I don't need them, right?! How do I get rid of them.
As for recently uninstalled Messanger.. I have a list of things I do when I first install my operating systems.. one would be removing everything at start up, one would be disabling Windows Messanger.. I reinstalled my XP maybe 3-4 weeks ago and OE has been working fine. Just today all of the sudden it decided to start acting wacky.
As for the Contacts.. I don't use them and never have.

Yes, you can delete your ActiveX Controls if you wish. If you require them, you should be prompted to download them again. They are stored in C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files or you can access the controls via IE >Tools >Internet Options. Click on the General Tab and click on the Settings buttons. To remove them, look in Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs first but if the entry is not there, just rightclick on each and choose Remove.
Try compacting your OE folders and see if that helps. In the OE Folder list (to open, click on View > Layout and check Folder List) click Outlook Express so that no mail or news folder is open. Now click File > Work Offline so that no new messages can arrive. Finally, click File > Folder > Compact All Folders. This process can take several minutes and you should not attempt to use your computer until it is finished.
If this doesnt help your situation yuppicide, could you give us a few more details please. Is OE just slow to open and OK once its open or slow all round. Are you getting any error messages? Could you please check your System Error log and see if anything is recorded when this happens (Start > Help and Support > Tools > Advanced System Information and click on View the Error Log).

Ok well first off you suggested compacting OE folders.. you mean compact messages?! It does that automatically in the background. I did the compact folders thing.. took 2 seconds to do. Still didn't help.
Here's some more details on my situation. It is only slow to load, but once it opens it works fine.
I just talked to a friend today and his has the same problem.. it was after installing MSN Messanger that we both seem to have this problem and have no idea how to fix it. I've uninstalled MSN Messanger and it still gives my OE slow load. :(
I went into the Error Log like you said.. I have a bunch of errors in there.. here's a link to a .txt file on my website so you can view the errorlog: http://www.fiend4life.com/yuppicide/errorlog.txt
I don't know what most of those errors are.. like the CD ROM one.. I have no problems burning CD's or DVD's.. the Windows login ones.. I never have problem logging in. No idea what DCOM errors are.

The DCOM error indicates that your problem is caused by removing Messenger. Increase the Speed of Outlook Express after Removing Messenger (http://www.tweakxp.com/tweakxp/display.asp?id=108)

I love you! I told you once before, but you are truely the Queen of all my life. LOL! Thank you soooooooooooo much. Weird how the error didn't occur until a few weeks after disabling messanger.

Is there anyway to clear out that error log file?! This way I can see when new errors pop up in there?!

Just hit refresh at the top. Any new errors will be displayed.
