I'm working on a customers machine, or rather, tryig to work on it...

Everything I do though brings up an error I've never seen before.

"Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. As a result, the page may not display correctly."

Eerything brings this up..Search, Find Files, My Computer, Network, Control Panel, Windows Explorer, Dialup Networking, Recycle Bin...you name it and I get the message.

I've searched around on the Internet but have yet to really fid a solution. I guess I've trying the wrong key words. Anyone know where to kill these damn ActiveX controls so I can actually do something with this computer?

Hi PostCode - the ActiveX Controls are stored in C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files. To remove them, look in Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs first but if the entry is not there, just rightclick on each and choose Remove. If you still have a problem after removing them, run a Startup List (http://www.cybertechhelp.com/html/downloads/download.php/id/37) and we will have a look at it for you.

Turns out it wasn't a Active X issue....rather a hosed registry issue. We restored an old registry which promptly bombed the system out but with a little tweaking around we got it back up and stable. How the ActiveX control error got in there, I think was from the user jacking the security level up to a point that you couldn't do anything at all with the system. In trying to fix it, the probably rebooted a number of times using the reset button and other methods. But, we got it back....what a pain that was. We did so many things I can't remember which step really fixed it either. It came back for the most part with the restore, but, some other things were still fubar. IE wouldn't run or un-install, so we reinstalled it. After that we had to go i and tweak all the programs they had running in the background, like Norton Firewall and Norton Security.
