View Full Version : Problem with some cab file?!

This doesn't happen with every program, but it has been happening with quite a few.

If I go to download a program, and I tell it to go to My Downloads, then when I open it to install the program, I sometimes get this error about inserting a disk and that it can't find "Jump Keys" cab file. Jump Keys is something I got a long time ago and really liked, but I didn't stay with it because you had to pay if you wanted to keep it. I uninstalled it. Well, if I take the same download that won't work and move it to my desktop, everything is fine when I go to install the program. So the problem is something to do with Jump Keys and My Downloads. (Geeez, am I putting this clearly)??

I went into RegCleaner and did find two things related to Jump Keys there, some kind of VB settings or something, old, and I deleted them. It didn't solve the problem, though.

Any advice? Nothing urgent about this at all, but I'd like to fix this.

START SEARCH

Type in Jump Keys, delete all references to it, also check your system.ini and win.ini files could be in there.

Thanks, Murf! Followed your advice; don't find anything in system.ini or win.ini, or anywhere now searching for jump keys. Nor do I find it by searching under .cab. At a loss!

Harrie is that program the one that helps manage the Zip and Cab files? If so then it could be that it has the cab files that the programs are looking for, and when you removed the program windows no longer knows where to look for them. (Does this make sense?)

Made sense to me enough to try this: I re-downloaded Jump Keys into My Downloads - didn't even open or install because I don't really want it at this point, and then I tried downloading a program to My Downloads that before gave me the problem........it was fine, worked the way it's supposed to! Thank you very much both for your help! Guess I won't uninstall Jump Keys, either, hehehe.........

Your welcome Harrie. I'm glad you got it going. I've never used that program. Sounds pretty neat though.
