mp3 from cd

i'm new to this cd recording can anyone help
where can i get freee software to convert cd to mp3 as i would like to play various cd from my hard drive also compilations for playing on my home DVD/cd player (i am just lazy and cant be bothered to get up and change the cd)

Assuming this is for cds where you have permission to do so (otherwise it's illegal and we can't talk about it here on the board)

My favorite is Music Match

It has a "record" option and you select the songs you want and you press the record button and it exports them into mp3's. If you can't figure out how to do it just say somethign and I'll give you specific instructions.
