Hi,
I recently installed Windows 2000 Professional to a clean hard drive (I upgraded from Win Me and wanted the stability of the NT kernel.) and basically it works, but, there are a few glitches that I was hoping someone would know how to fix, or at least explain them. First off, when installing from CD disk, everything is okay, except for one error message that states that the "cscui.dll" file is missing and that it may cause 2000 not to install correctly or at all. I hit esc. and bypassed it and finished the install. It doesn't seem to be to crucial, because, Windows successfully installed and seems to work okay. Can anyone tell me what this .dll is used for and if there is anyway to install it. I figure the disk is damaged just enough where this file is located. Could I extract this CD to my HDD, add the .dll, make an ISO of it and then burn it to another disk??? Do I even really need this .dll??? I am having a little trouble with my modem, 3-D accelerator and Raid Controller card. I cannot seem to find the appropriate drivers for these items. Is it possible to use Win NT drivers instead? I know that Win 9x drivers will not work. Incidentally, the Raid Controller card doesn't even seem to work with 2000. I cannot get any of my other drives on that controller card to be recognized with 2000. (I never had that problem with Win Me.) When HDD is plugged into the controller card, it is recognized by the BIOS, but, not by 2000 setup or the HDD utilities program that came with the drive!! Any ideas??? Also, when first installing, the user is given the choice of a NTFS or a FAT setup. Which one would be a better choice and what is the basic difference between them?!?! Other than these problems, the setup seemed to be successful. It starts, runs and shuts down with no error messages or blue screens of death, so it can't be too bad, I figure. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!!! timkedz |

Windows 2000/XP are the most stable MS operating system so far.
1) cscui.dll is Client Side Caching UI. Check this dll help. http://support.microsoft.com/default...%2fdllinfo.asp 2) You could copy i386 folder to HD (e.g. Copy to C:\Installs\Win200Pro\). You can install Windows 2000 directly from your HD and it is faster too. Try to find a replcement for the file if it is corrupted and save to the HD. You don't have to create an ISO image and burn it to CD. 3) Some Windows 9x driver may work with Windows 2000. It is highly recommened to use Windows 2000 driver even if you can't find one. Try to find it in http://www.windrivers.com, http://www.driverzone.com. In the worst case sencerio, you could not find the driver, you may use the generic driver. 4) NTFS provides additional security, auditing, compression features and support large HD. Check this for detail. (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tre...p/filesyst.asp) If you dual boot your PC (with another 9x OS), you may have to consider compatible problem, which you can not see files in NTFS partition in Windows 9x/Me. If there is only one OS in your HD, go ahead with NTFS. Hope these help, Last edited by dragonsix; June 13th, 2003 at 01:04 AM. |

When you install 2K or XP you have to choose F6 right after the first blue screen comes up during the initial install to install drivers for the RAID Controller. During the install, watch the bottom of the screen.
What you need to do is create a floppy disk with the drivers for the RAID controller on it. When it gets to the portion when it needs drivers for the controller, it'll tell you to insert the disk in the floppy and install them from there. |

you can also install the controller drivers after installing win2k.
just plug the card in, without any drives hooked to it. Install the drivers for the card, shut down, hook up the hardrives and off you go.
