I"m using a WIN 2k client pc that has a problem with mapped drives. when a certain user is logged in and maps a drive, then disconnects and maps that same drive letter to a new network drive, the new information displays fine, but the drive name retains its old name. Aside from registry mod's, any ideas?

Within My Computer, after mapping the drive, can you right click on the drive and select Rename?

Yes, that is an option, but this shouldnt happen in the first place and its a repeat occurence, I would like to can it for good so I and the client do not need to continually rename it.

Can't you just map the drive, yet tell it not to reconnect at startup? This way, you can just connect to the drive when you want to and not have to remove it all the time.

Consider my first two queries as done using reconnect at login, but when we need to change the mapping, the problem occurs for the one user.

This is a mapped drive over a network correct? Maybe the user's logon profile script (if one exists) on the domain controller (if there is one) is corrupt. Resetting the user's account may have some effect. The other thing that might be an issue...are you using straight TCP/IP or NETBUI as well?

Ok, the issue had to do with the users profile. So far unable to determine exactly what the option was. but I entered Folder Options in My Computer and restored defaults of the General and View tabs. Problem solved, but still not aware of what caused the problem. thanks for the input though :)
