Jpegs in Windows 98 and IE 5.5

I'm trying to view jpegs and I'm not using any particular program to do so, just IE 5.5 intergrated picture viewer. However I notice that ever since I reformatted, when I click on a Jpeg it opens in the browser window I'm using to surf. Is there a setting in IE to make the Jpeg open in it's own seperate window? Thanks all.

Couldn't you just right mouse click over the jpeg file, then select "Open With" then choosing the program to open the file, and have it set to open all such images?

I don't have the "open with" option. And I didnt use to have to do that to open pics before so I was thinking maybe there's some check box somewhere in the settings that needs to be checked or unchecked.

Some versions of Windows (NT for one) requires you to hold the shift key while you right click to get at the Open With option

I have the similar prbl using IE 5.5 and WXse. was never an issue when using NETS to browse. I know this is archival re the OS and Browser but have been told that if I go to tools.inernet opts and advanced, tht there is a box to check. Havent found it in 2yrs
Now I find someone who has been dealing with this also.
I usually get the ' time to upgrade' when all else fails
good luckj

I'm gonna try MSN's troubleshooting section. I do know that if I re-associate jpegs to Internet explorer or iexplorer that it stops the problem but then all the icons change to IE type icons. I never had to do this before tho.
