When I went ot drop of two of my crumb grabbers at the airport last weekend (ditched them for the summer WHOOHOO), I stopped by a book store to get them something to read on the plane. Sooooo, while they were finding something, I meandered on over to the computer book section to see what they had for Linux stuff.

One book that caught my eye was "Real World Linux Security". The book describes various attack methods and rates the attack overall on damage and vulnerability. Each recieving a number between one and five. Five being the worst.

The book contains tons of hacks that people use on Linux systems and how you can protect yourself. It dosen't go into much detail about how these attacks are done, just how to fix them. It basically gives an overview of each type of attack and then tells you how to fix it. The book is organized into sections like Network, X Windows, Terminals, FTP, SSH, etc...

ANyway, at the bookstore it was $49.99, but over at Linux Central you can get it for $34.95. In all the time I've read Linux stuff, I've never seen such a "to the point" kind of book. No BS about how to open a terminal....DUH! Just solid information on each attack and how to fix it.

aw that's cool. Expensive book, but interesting. I have to say i've never had a thing go wrong with my linux since i've had it. My server has been up for about 5 straight days. With restarts from time to time to keep the connection fresh. Love the security too.
