When you right-click and save as what does the "Save As Type" box say?

Try deleting the Temporary Internet Files.

That's what I mean. Id it saving as a JPEG file with a JPG extension. Check what the box says.

When the "open with" dialog comes up, pick "Iexplore", and check the "always open with" box.

Iexplore.exe is the default application to open gifs and jpegs.

When did this start happening?

If it's not longer than a day or 4, 5 ago, you might consider restoring a previous Registry using the Scanreg /restore command in MS-DOS.

Another idea depending on your version of Internet Explorer is to use the repair tool.

Before doing anything else, download this reg file (http://www.aumha.org/downloads/thumnail.zip)

It's the general fix to restore Windows Explorer’s default thumbnail preview capability for a dozen different image types.

Unzip, run by doubleclicking, say 'yes' to the prompt, and reboot.

Good luck, and tell us what happens.
