Switching switches...
I just bought an 8 port Linksys switch to replace a 5 port linksys switch. We have DSL, and the DSL router from the internet company was plugged in to the Uplink port on the 5 port switch. So, I plugged it in to the uplink port on the new switch, the light came on but I was never able to connect or pull up any settings for the router. I gave it some time to see if anything would happen. I tried it in a regular port as well and that didn't work. I plugged it back in to the 5 port switch and right away it worked. I don't get what would be different?
![]() ALSO- I decided to try something. I connected the router to the uplink of the 5 port. Then I ran from a regular port of the 5 port to a regular port of the 8 port switch. Now I can connect to the internet. I do plan on using the 5 port switch at some point but would prefer to connect the router to the 8 port switch, I just don't get why it wont!

Some switches have a switch to change the uplink port from straight to crossover, this is not the case with yours. So if it doesn't work with known working components & cables, I would say the switch is not functioning correctly. Return it & get another.
