Dynamic IP Addresses?

As we know, many ISP's run under the Dynamic IP address system, meaning that each time anyone logs onto the internet through their own ISP, their IP is more than likely differnet to their "previous" log in!!

My question is, the IP address's that's used each time for a particular customer, would they be allocated to addresses within a certain spectrum of IP adresses?

So, if I lived on chicken ave, chickenville, chicken county, and I signed up to chicken on line, and they use dynamic IP addresses, would I be allocated to say...555.55.555.501 through 555.55.555.550.
Or would the IP addresses cover a much wider spectrum than that?

Just curious!!

Hiya Dave, I'm moving your topic to the Internet forum. I think that this question will get better exposure there.

Service Providers purchase IP Ranges.

For example
Quote:
OrgName: AT&T Broadband Northeast
OrgID: ATBN
Address: 27 Industrial Ave
City: Chelmsford
StateProv: MA
PostalCode: 01824
Country: US

NetRange: 66.30.48.0 - 66.30.191.255

It tends to depend on the way the ISP is set up internally. I use NTL (a cable company in the UK) and it is actually made up of lots of smaller regional companies. It might be the case that each of these companies has its own IP block.

That's what I was kinda wondering, Steven, just to see if any particular area uses a "set" block of numbers, and say, how often would one "house" get the same number again!!
