I posted this in the W2K forum, but I am hoping someone here may be able to help me.

I just had my computer completely overhauled (due to viruses) and W2k professional was reinstalled. Now, whenI go to set up some VPNs I had set up previously, those options are not available to me. Here is a screenshot of what my wizard now looks like:

Screenshot (http://www.jilld.lunarpages.com/networkscreenshot.htm)

As you can see, 3 of the 5 options are not available.

I already went into Control Panel and added some Windows components that had been skipped when my tech did the reinstall. But those installations did not change anything.

How do I get the VPN services available again?

I should mention that this is W2K Professional, I am the administrator, and there is no modem on the computer - I connect through a cable modem (using a linksys router)

Thanks for any help! Jill

Look HERE (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;281625)

The 3rd symptom looks like yours......

More than likely one of these are true....

1-The Telephony service is stopped.
2-The Remote Access Connection Manager service is stopped.

Hope it helps.....

Thanks for the link, the 3rd sympton was EXACTLY my problem.

Strange though, before I went through the recommended steps I tried one more time. It kept prompting me to enter my area code and all along I was cancelling because I did not want to use dial up. This time I simply filled it in and VOILA, all of my services became available.

I don't know if this is a quirk in Windows 2000 Pro, or if is just completing the process of setting up the telephony services after w2kP installation.

I find it odd that I would need to provide my area code on a computer with no modem!

Thanks again, Jill :D
