I recently received an old p2 laptop, and wanted to install win2k on it. I brought out my trusty win98 boot disk, formatted the 4gb hdd then tried to restart to access my bios. It seems that I cannot get into my bios to change the boot config to boot off of a cdrom. So I tried booting off the floppy again and tried to run the setup.exe from the cd in dos, but it turns out that I can't do that. I would like to know if there is a way to have a boot disk almost like redirect the booting process to the cdrom. I would really like to use this laptop for notes and stuff, so any help would be greatly appriciated.

Do you keep tapping the key or key combination to enter BIOS Setup when the laptop starts/restarts? Just thinking that, perhaps, you're missing that small window of time to press the key or key combination to enter BIOS setup.
An alternate route to install using the trusty WIN98 boot disk is to navigate to the i386 folder on the WIN2K CD and run WINNT instead of trying to run Setup.

I'll make sure to try it out when I finish checking the disk for errors, and I hope it will work. So this will work even if it is a blank hdd? And about the boot up bios window, it doesn't even show any stats of my comp when booting up, and I have tried pressing every button I know of (all of them) when it is booting up (a 3 sec window or opportunity) I'll report back when it's done (92% done so far, it will be about 5 more mins)

Yes, it should work even though it's a blank HDD........WIN2K (and WINXP, for that matter) have partitioning/formatting functions "built-in" to their Setup programs. Running WINNT.EXE instead of Setup.exe is a way of running setup in DOS mode.......it's quite a bit slower during the copying files portion, though, so it may take a little while to get WIN2K installed.
