mirror configuration on new modem

Hi, I wish to connect two PCs to our broadband provider, but we only got one modem. I don`t want to set up a network with a hub, as we got the cable installed in both rooms, so it sounds silly to stretch another one. What I was thinking was that I could buy another cable modem and then dump the configuration of the modem I got onto the new modem. This way I got two modems that are alike, that uses one of the 3 dynamic IPs that has been provided to me.
So do you think this will work? mirroring the configuration including the MAC address?

Thanks!
Haakon

NO it won't work.

If you don't want to run any other cable, why not go wireless? Several companies offer solutions to your problem.

Linksys

D-Link

Belkin

Ok, thanks!

I guess I`ll have to drag some extra cables through the appartment. I think wireless would be too hard to keep secure (for me), because we live in a appartment..... or am I wrong?

Thanks,
Haakon

Wireless setups use WEP encryption to keep data secure. It's not that hard to setup.

WEP info
