Svchost.exe Error

Hi all

What does svchost.exe do?
Once I got a message on my PC while browsing, 'svchost.exe has occured a error. The application would be shut down.'
I uninstalled MSOfficeXP and then reinstalled it...i get rid of that error.
Now my another PC have the same problem, I did same which I do last time when I got that error. But now problem remain same.
Any idea or which should I do to get rid of that error.

- Have you tried installing/re-installing Service Pack 2 for Windows 2000?
